Monochromatic (2007-2019)

This collection of monochrome images is culled from over a decades’ worth of casual photography. A scrapbook of holiday snaps, architectural work that doesn’t sit with my other more focussed output, portraits of my family, and anything else that caught my eye when the camera was close by.

Though all were captured with digital colour cameras, I have enjoyed delving into my archives and curating a selection of photos that work in a monochrome format.

If I’m to be your camera, then who will be your face?

Philip Butler is an amateur photographer based in England’s rural West Midlands. The majority of his work focusses on documenting the UK’s surviving inter-war architecture through the Art Deco Magpie project. This ancillary site represents a more varied portfolio and outlet for some of his other less specific material.
